In early 2015: Climate Friendly joined forces with Adcorp in the creation of a new carbon emissions calculator tool for Climate Friendly's high-profile sustainability partner: The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
Climate Friendly has an international client base and for over 12 years have been helping businesses and households take action on climate change and energy use. Their programmes includes providing innovative solutions for Onsite Energy and Efficiency, Carbon Management, Renewable Energy and Australian Carbon Farming. A key component to their work involves carbon offset projects spanning wind, solar, small hydro and sustainable biomass across Asia, Europe and the Pacific region.
Our project management and design team created conceptual wireframes that mapped out the calculation steps and process.
Their challenge was to make a fairly complex calculation process easy for users to complete with minimal steps as well as adding a fun element that accurately aligns with UEFA Euro 2016's brand.
Once wireframes were approved, our development team created a functional prototype that took the emissions calculation algorithm developed by Climate Friendly and placed them in a step-by-step flow. The prototype made use of Google Places API to assist with distance calculations and city listing functionality. The prototype allowed the project team to test the calculator functioning in a simple non-graphical representation.
From there our design team created a skin for the calculator that fits within the UEFA.com style. Key brand elements including the event's mascot were used throughout the process to provide key tips and information to educate users. To align the calculator with back with UEFA's core event - our design team created a football styled scoreboard for the results screen that offered differing result styles based on the user's carbon emission results.
Finally our development team brought the design and backend together with applying the style ready for use on uefa.com as well as implementing payment gateways and systems required to the calculator to go live.
